The property

For the first time in more than 30 years this unique part of Waiheke Island is on the market; allowing for new energy, capital and ideas to be added to the conservation and regeneration process.

Thousands of native plants and shrubs have been planted in addition to the natural regeneration; beginning in 1993 when the block was retired from animal grazing, and roaming feral goats were eradicated.

Outstanding primary and secondary regrowth has enabled the block to maintain its core natural character and landscape values.

The four block subdivision has been carefully designed to compliment and assist widespread regeneration and transition into climax habitat.

In addition, no chemicals have been used on the block in the past 30 years, so organic status may be achievable.

Unlike many recent subdivisions there are no public walkways or entrance rights to compromise privacy.

The location

Situated close to the geographical centre of the island, within the scenically attractive and historic Awaawaroa Valley, the four blocks on offer encompass a large part of the valley corridor, climbing to include the upper parts of Maunganui, Waiheke's highest point.

The covenanted area has been designated as an SEF (significant environmental feature) as per the  Hauraki Gulf Islands District Plan.

Each of the four lots contain part of the covenanted SEF, thereby allowing each owner to be part of their own nature reserve within a beautiful valley,  with its meandering river and its protected raupo wetlands.

An opportunity now arises to join the valleys eclectic neighbouring community which includes organic vineyards, an Eco Village, an award-winning Italian restaurant, vineyard and olive groves and other like-minded land owners.

Here is a unique chance to become part of this Valley and lifestyle - to live in and to appreciate the distant calm and quiet of a special island, whilst being only ten minutes away from Onetangi beach and Four Square supermarket and 25 minutes from the Ferry terminal.

ABOUT US

This place is special...

Māori history

A portion of the Maunganui Pā is sited on the land. This is listed as category A with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. One of only three inland defensive Pā, it was largely considered a place of refuge and retreat for the people of the Awaawaroa and Te Matuku areas.

Manganese Mining

It was known as early as the mid 1840's that Waiheke is an abundant source of Manganese. In 1873 rich manganese deposits were discovered in the valley, and Manganese mining continued until 1892.

Farmland

The 77 acre property was sold as a single lot by the Crown into private ownership in 1892, and large areas were subsequently converted and used as farmland until the early 1990s.

Native habitat has been extensively restored over the last ~30 years under the current owners.
